Dare to Dream BIG

When most things went south in 2020 and we could not continue with our plans, me and my friend Håkon William Skog Erlandsen decided to create a joint venture.

Dare to Dream Big is an ambitious project involving expeditions to some of the most extreme locations of the earth with a twist -- adding music to extreme sports.

Both of us were working on the ‘Explorers Grand Slam’, challenge, which is an adventurer goal to reach the North Pole and South Pole, as well as climb the Seven Summits (Everest, Aconcagua, Denali, Kilimanjaro, Vinson, Puncak Jaya, Mount Elbrus).

I am a speaker, expedition leader, and author, who left corporate, on a mission to be the first human to not only complete the Explorers Grand Slam, but to also climb the 7 highest volcanoes. I've already covered the 7 highest summits, 5 out of 7 volcanoes, and I plan on visiting the North and South Poles in 2021 and 2022.

Håkon is known as the Jazzathlete. He is a professional saxophone artist and composer who is now climbing the 7 summits (5/7) and working his way to both poles, to be the first in the world to play live music on The Explorers Grand Slam. Håkon is composing a symphony inspired by the places he visits, which will be arranged for a 70 piece orchestra.

Both of us were pursuing our Grand Slam goals individually, but decided to join forces and document our preparation and journey to inspire others to aim high and dream big. Our joint venture brings together unique elements including having a woman who is aiming to be a world’s first, plus bringing music to locations where it has never been performed before. I love building strong teams and our approach emphasizes cooperation and diversity as keys for success. In addition, our work will shine the spotlight on how we all have to contribute to preserving the fantastic nature we have.

The plandemic made travel difficult, forcing us to postpone our North Pole expedition until 2022. We have been resilient and flexible in our plans and are now instead set for a kiting and skiing expedition on Greenland May 2021. The Greenland expedition is a training ground for our upcoming expedition to Antarctica in November 2021.

These expeditions are quite costly due to the amount of preparation, gear, insurance bonds and travel expenses, which is why we are seeking sponsors and donations. With current sponsors like Yamaha, Amundsen Sports, SGN and Moonlight Mountain Gear, to name a few, they are attracting attention from companies who are thrilled to be associated with such an ambitious and unique project.
